For this responsibility, we have prepared ourselves intensively and have taken all the necessary steps to deliver the highest-quality Mercedes-Benz gearboxes. &#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stuttgart \/ Sebe\u015f<\/strong> &#8211; Mercedes-Benz subsidiary in Romania, Star Assembly, has officially started production of the 8G-DCT eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. In order to integrate this new product into the transmission portfolio, Mercedes-Benz has built two new production halls in Sebe\u015f with an area of \u200b\u200bapproximately 54,000 square meters.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The expansion of Sebe\u015f gearbox production highlights the importance, flexibility and high performance of the Romanian production centers within the global powertrain network Mercedes-Benz Cars. The Sebe\u015f drive plays a key role in delivering next-generation transmission to Mercedes-Benz passenger cars around the world in a flexible and efficient way, &#8220;says Frank Deiss, Powertrain Production Manager, Mercedes-Benz Cars. Automatic transmissions for Mercedes-Benz cars are produced within the Powertrain production network at Untert\u00fcrkheim headquarters in Germany and at the Star Assembly factory in Sebe\u015f, Romania.<\/p>\n<p>On the occasion of the official launch of the new transmission, Klaus Eichhorn, CEO of Klaus Eichhorn, welcomed Mr. Frank Deiss, Powertrain Production Manager Mercedes-Benz Cars, Stephan-Radu Oprea, Minister of Business, Commerce and Entrepreneurship, as well and many other guests from the political and business world.<br \/>\n&#8220;We are witnessing another positive outcome of the long-standing partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Romania as a production location. We welcome the company&#8217;s decision, one of the world&#8217;s largest players in the mobility industry, to implement a significant new project in Romania. I take this opportunity to express once again the Government&#8217;s full support for all the investment projects started in Romania, &#8220;says Stefan-Radu Oprea, Minister for the Business, Commerce and Entrepreneurship Environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transmission systems manufactured in Sebe\u015f, delivered worldwide<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;We are the first and only location in the Mercedes-Benz Cars powertrain production network that produces the new eight-stage twin-clutch transmission. For this responsibility, we have intensively prepared and have taken all the necessary steps to deliver the highest-quality Mercedes-Benz gearboxes. Mercedes-Benz&#8217;s commitment and investment in developing locations in Romania, from Sebe\u015f and Cugir, is a strong statement of confidence in our highly trained and committed team, as well as a recognition of remarkable work, &#8220;says Klaus Eichhorn, Director General Star Transmission and Star Assembly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New 8G-DCT gearbox: More gears, higher torque<\/strong><br \/>\nThe new 8G-DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission was first introduced in conjunction with diesel engines that fit the new B-Class, which is delivered to customers starting in February 2019. Other models in the new compact family will be equipped with 8G-DCT. The gearbox was designed for a torque of up to 520 Nm. Compared to the 7G-DCT transmission, the weight of the box drops by about 3.6 kilograms. Transmission ratios are lower due to the additional gear that increases the ease of gear shifting and thus enables the engine to operate in the best possible operating parameters. At the same time, the eighth gear has a higher transmission ratio and, at constant road speeds, for example, rotations per minute decrease, increasing efficiency and attenuating noise.<br \/>\nSince its launch in 2005, Mercedes-Benz has produced more than 1.5 million B-class vehicles. In 1997, Class A launched the current Mercedes-Benz compact segment; Since then, more than six million compact machines have been delivered to customers around the world. In 2018, more than 609,000 customers from all over the world received their new A or B, CLA, CLA Shooting Brake or GLA models. Thus, one of four vehicles sold by Mercedes-Benz in 2018 was a compact car. In the Star Assembly, seven- and eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearboxes are assembled, as well as nine-speed transmissions for Mercedes-Benz. At Star Transmission headquarters, gears, mechanically machined components for motors, transmissions, high pressure pipes and steering systems are produced. In addition, here is the Technology Center, as well as a training area. The Star Assembly Subsidiary was set up in Sebe\u015f in 2013, and the five-speed automatic gearbox production was launched in the same year. The new 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox is produced in the same space. With the support of the Romanian Government, Star Transmission is one of the first companies in Romania to offer a dual education system based on the Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg model.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Mercedes-Benz Powertrain production network<\/strong><br \/>\nThe global powertrain network Mercedes-Benz Cars brings together several locations, both in Germany and internationally, all of which have a reference factory in Untert\u00fcrkheim, Germany. In Untert\u00fcrkheim there are engines, gearboxes, axles and related components. The location is also undergoing a transition to a high-tech unit for electrical components. This includes a new battery line and assembly lines for power transmission modules for front and rear axles. The location thus becomes a competence center for integrating the entire transmission system into production. The Mercedes-Benz plant in Berlin is a location where state of the art technologies are used to produce components that help reduce CO2 emissions. Starting with the next decade, the unit will be equipped with lines for assembling transmission electrical systems for future vehicles produced under the EQ brand. The Mercedes-Benz Factory in Hamburg is also a unit equipped with the most efficient and modern technologies for electric vehicle components. Furthermore, classical components, ranging from axles and axle components, steering columns and lightweight subassemblies to exhaust technology elements, are also produced. The MDC Power engine plant in K\u00f6lleda, in the German state of Thuringia, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz AG and produces four-cylinder engines for the Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG cars. The main engines and assemblies are also produced outside Germany. Such locations include Mercedes-Benz in Romania, Star Transmission and Star Assembly, for assembling transmissions and producing parts and components. The BBAC joint venture in Beijing, China, produces engines according to local requirements. As part of the strategic collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Renault \/ Nissan Alliance, four-cylinder gasoline Mercedes-Benz engines are built by Infiniti at the American plant in Decherd, Tennessee. Mercedes-Benz invests over one billion euros in a global battery production network as part of the already existing production network of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
