Sebes, 9 January 2014 \u2013 Star Transmission celebrated today with partners from the world of politics and economics the official inauguration of the assembly facility for dual-clutch transmissions used by Mercedes-Benz cars. Almost 40 million euro were invested in the production hall with an area of approx. 13,000 square meters. The construction was completed in just 10 months and the first transmissions were installed successfully.<\/p>\n

In just 310 days, 500 tons of steel, 4,000 cubic meters of concrete were used for the construction of the new assembly facility and 20,000 cubic meters of earth have been moved. Today, with the inauguration of the building, the installation of dual-clutch transmissions has officially begun. Besides the modern assembly lines, and office space, the new production facility also includes storage and logistics.<\/p>\n
The increased production capacity of Star Transmission offers support to the overburdened German-based production. Mercedes-Benz cars that use this gearbox model are very successful and very popular among customers.<\/p>\n
Star Transmission places great value on optimal training of its employees, which is why 150 workers benefited from a specialization of approximately one year at the Mercedes-Benz development centre in Untert\u00fcrkheim, Germany. Our employees’ know-how and experience are prerequisites for the successful development of Star Transmission. During their schooling in Germany, our employees were specialized in assembling gearboxes and were acquainted with the German work habits. There is no qualitative difference between a gearbox produced in Germany and one produced in Romania, says Bernd Krottmayer, Director of Star Transmission.<\/p>\n
Her Excellency, Mrs. Judith Urban, Consul of Germany in Sibiu, was among the guests of honor. \u201cThe exemplary development of the Mercedes-Benz subsidiary, Star Transmission, in Sebes and Cugir, is an example of a success story. This story became a success thanks, to a certain extent, to the excellent cooperation with local authorities. I hope both the Company and its partners will continue to be successful and that the new project, i.e. installation of dual-clutch transmissions, will work at its full capacity in the future\u201d.<\/p>\n
During his speech, Mr. Gheorghe Fene\u015fer, Prefect of Alba county, congratulated STC for its success in inaugurating two products – the 5-speed gearbox and the dual-clutch gearbox – within 6 months, ending his speech with the greeting: \u201cIn two years I would love to be present at the inauguration of the 300 million euro investment, but it would please me even more to hear that STC assembles luxury Mercedes Benz cars in their entirety\u201d.<\/p>\n
Ioan Dumitrel, County Council President: \u201cThe new production halls provide advantages on several different levels, simultaneously creating jobs not only in Sebes but also throughout the region. STC found in Alba county a qualified workforce and we are pleased that this new model of gearbox is now being produced in our county as well, not only in Germany\u201d.<\/p>\n
Alexandru D\u0103ncil\u0103, Mayor of Sebes city, equally stressed that he would continue to offer the full support of the local government. \u201cI can only rejoice over this new investment; I will continue to support the Company and any other investor who creates jobs\u201d.<\/p>\n
