Release date: December 2021
Although as demanding as 2020 in terms of impact of the pandemic, it is safe to say that, for Star Transmission & Star Assembly, 2021 was the most enriching year from the perspective of our corporate social responsibility. Here, we strongly believe that operating a sustainable and durable business means operating responsibly and leading by example.
Therefore, in 2021, alongside our successful operation of business, we also lead with our social responsibility actions — by promoting a culture of sustainable growth, working alongside with community members, sticking to our goals, guiding principles and values and achieving every target. This was only possible through the hard work, cooperation, commitment and flexibility of the remarkable team of Star Transmission & Star Assembly.
Long-term sustainability is not only good for business: it is necessary.
With “passion” as one of our four values, not only do we appreciate the passion for our day-to-day business, but also towards all the efforts of our colleagues directed to local communities. This gives the impulse to continue to participate in corporate social responsibility activities that influence positively public health, education and volunteering on a long-term basis. As a result, we strive to reach all segments of the population in our local community and beyond through our social activities.
According to this philosophy, Star Transmission & Star Assembly sponsored in 2021 almost 2 million EUR towards causes dear to our hearts. Here are some of the biggest projects supported this year.
The biggest project consisted in our companies sponsoring the amount of 600.000 euros for construction works directed mainly to the hydrotherapy pool area of the first National Pediatric Center in Romania. Maria Beatrice Center is located in Alba Iulia, providing medical services for children with neuro-motor disorders, severe polytrauma and cerebral palsy.
Also part of our corporate social responsibility strategy, we supported the purchase of two ambulances, as well as the thermal refurbishment of the Red Cross headquarters in Alba Iulia, with the total amount of 240.000 euros. The Red Cross plays a significant role in our CSR strategy, as one of our most long-standing collaborators. By the healthcare services provided by this humanitarian organization, we strive to contribute to the management of the constantly growing needs of inhabitants of Alba County. Our collaboration with the Red Cross this year also extended to the “Back to School” humanitarian campaign that took place in September, sponsoring the amount of 46.000 euros for the purchase of 500 school bags filled with school supplies for disadvantaged children in the county.
Moreover, we supported the Blood Transfusion Center of Alba County with the amount of 40.000 euros for the installation of heating stations, renovation of the sampling room and modernization of the headquarters.
For the first time ever, Star Transmission & Star Assembly granted to Hospice Eliana an association in Alba Iulia that offers palliative care services to patients suffering from incurable diseases, received a financial aid worth 50.000 euros that was used to purchase two cars for the transportation of the patient care team and expansion of the headquarter building.
The series of CSR projects of 2021 will conclude with the traditional “Shoebox” company-wide internal campaign of Star Transmission & Star Assembly, where the employees gather and deliver hundreds of Christmas packages to less fortunate children within the county of Alba.
Frank Streicher, general manager Star Assembly: “With our social responsibility strategy, we provide a solid basis for social growth and better healthcare conditions. Corporate social responsibility is integral part of our corporate culture; we are lucky and grateful to advance such actions with the help of our dedicated team.”
Learning and sustainable education goes beyond the classroom.
In these challenging times, improving educational process is no easy task either. The adaption to current times concerning teaching – especially in the less privileged communities and more than common in rural areas, has forced children to attend online school, without the proper tools supporting the learning process. Thus, our companies took a leap forward to get involved in the modernization of the teaching basis of the schools in Alba County, by donating 380 new laptops, 2 video projectors and 3 copiers, all worth more than 330.000 euros. This way, we ensure equal opportunities for learning and access to quality education for pupils. In addition to this project, our companies granted the amount of 48.000 euros to the Alba Iulia extension of the Technical University Cluj-Napoca, for the construction and equipping of a technical lab.
“Listening to, as well as understanding the needs of our communities are a must to build up a more sustainable future and share our success. Our largest inspiration comes from our partners and beneficiaries, as we are driven by shared goals: we help them, as to enable them to help further.” says Gheorghe Achim, general manager Star Transmission.
With their values and forward-looking management, Star Transmission & Star Assembly not only ensure long-term competitiveness, but are also a reliable partner in the community. In this way, the management of the companies successfully meets the strategic objective of qualitative growth.
