Cugir, August 18, 2016: Mercedes-Benz’s Subsidiary, Star Transmission, continues its development strategy and opened today a new production facility in Cugir, Alba county, Romania. Over 150 new employees will produce, in the perfectly suited working premises, high-pressure pipelines for gasoline engines.
The new factory in Cugir has a surface area of 4,000 sq.m. and is intended only for the production of high-pressure pipelines for Mercedes Benz petrol engines. The total investment amounts to 13 million euro, and Star Transmission will be the sole supplier of this line on a worldwide scale. The production line is partly automated and 17 different types of pipes will be produced here, which will be mounted later on 5 types of engines.
High-pressure pipelines connect the injection pump to the injector without loss of pressure. They are intensely stressed during operation, both due to high fuel pressure, and to the high frequency of fuel injections.
The opening of the new production hall was attended by the Mayor of Cugir City, Mr. Adrian Teban, by the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Călin Furdui, by the Manager of the Engine and Component Planning Department of Berlin, Mr. Günther Hoffmann, as well as by numerous partners and collaborators of our Company. During the visit to our production site, the guests were able to watch the various stages of processing of the high-pressure pipes, and the employees anxious to start the work put into practice the know-how acquired in recent months.
The Company focuses on the optimal training of its employees, and this is the reason why some of the new employees have received specialist training for about six months at the Mercedes Benz factory in Berlin, where the project was carried out until now. During the training in Germany, the employees specialized in the production of high-pressure pipelines, key elements of the engine, and learned from their fellow Germans the working techniques and methods that ensured their success. In this way we ensure that the high Mercedes Benz standards of quality on production processes are complied with regardless of the production location.
A team of experts of Berlin accompanied the returning employees in order to provide support and assistance during the start of the Cugir project. The factory in Berlin will function as a centre of competence for CAMTRONIC engine functionality.
“Star Transmission has demonstrated over the past 15 years that it attaches maximum importance to productivity, efficiency and clear structures. The inauguration of the Cugir factory is a clear signal of continuous development. Through this action we provide a real stimulus for the creation of new jobs and for progress in the region. The basis of our success lies in the consistent focus on the quality of our products”, said CEO Falk Pruscha.
