Sebes – After just 12 months from the start of the building works, today, 17 July, the first 5-speed automatic transmission was officially mounted. The new factory was built in just 12 months and covers 9,000 square meters. Employees from different departments spent about 50,000 hours in Germany where they received intensive training and had the opportunity to work alongside their German colleagues. For the construction itself, about 400 tons of iron and 50,000 cubic meters of concrete and 20,000 meters of cable needed to transfer data between IT systems were used and, before the first gearbox was mounted, all the pieces were very strictly checked in order to ensure that quality will be as desired.

Bernd Krottmayer, Star Transmission Company Manager, explained: “It is an honor for us to take over this project. Until recently, the automatic 5-speed gearbox for Mercedes cars was mounted exclusively in Germany. Transferring production to Sebes shows once again how much trust Mercedes-Benz has in Star Transmission. Mercedes-Benz relies mainly on flexibility, reliability and high quality that we offer, and we will do our best not to disappoint them. The inauguration of the new production units underlines once again the Company’s development strategy. We can thus provide new jobs and various professional development opportunities”.

In the city of Sebes, Alba county, automatic gearboxes for luxury Mercedes Benz cars will be mounted. The assembly line composed of two main lines and 11 secondary lines was transferred from Germany and is partially automated. For the construction work of the assembly line and infrastructure, an amount of about 30 million euro was invested and 250 new jobs were created. The number of employees has had an upward trend since the beginning of the year and, therefore, we have recently been able to sign the employment contract with the 1000th employee, reaching a new milestone in the Company’s history.

Present at the inauguration of the manufacturing plant in Sebes, Alba County Prefect, Gheorghe Feneser, said he would support the Company in future projects. “It is an honor for me to be here today in a historic moment for both us and Alba County. I can assure you that you will have all the support necessary for a harmonious development”.

On behalf of the County Council, the vice presidents of the Alba County Council, Alin Cucui and Florin Roman, showed themselves impressed by the way the Company has developed in recent years: “It is interesting to note how beautifully this company has developed in the past years. From a small company with a few dozen employees, it has become a major player in this segment “.
Alexandru Dăncilă, Mayor of Sebes city, wanted to clarify: “STC is a success, we are pleased that our city has been chosen as the host of the company, thus creating new jobs. We appreciate the fact that Star Transmission is recruiting inexperienced youngsters for technical jobs, thus giving them a chance for a better future. I noted, moreover, that Star Transmission attaches great importance to social responsibility, combining an active presence in the field of technical work with vocational, social and cultural activities”.
