2017

March 2017: Star Transmission continues its development strategy in Romania by opening a new production facility in Cugir, dedicated to the series production of four different models of planetary wheels for the 9-gear 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. Following a 36 million EUR investment, the new production facility covers 11.000 square meters of ground and created 200 new jobs. As part of the Group’s sustainable growth strategy, the investments completed this year in Cugir also implied onsite trainings at the German headquarters, as well as the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies. Such example is the machine monitoring the noise that the planetary wheel makes in the gearbox.

The investment from Cugir involves a multi-stage increase in the production capacity of planetary wheels. It follows an investment of over EUR 13 million in 2016, which concerned the construction of a new production hall one the same grounds. Following the 2016 investment, Star Transmission became the sole supplier of high-pressure pipe for gasoline engines.

In the same year, work began on the modernization and rehabilitation of kindergarten building and nursery space at Cugir, a sponsorship project of Star Transmission.
In March 20-27, the first student-only event took place at Star Assembly. The company hosted around 300 students from different university centers in the country, who had the opportunity to get to know the company’s activities, try out state-of-the-art technologies and interact with employees. On May 11, the Long Night of Industry, the Star Transmission and Star Assembly alternative of doors open day took place, where visitors were able to participate in HR workshops, tours in the production facilities and received relevant information from the automotive industry. On May 20, the well-known Family Day by STC event was held, where participants of all ages enjoyed various activities as well as concerts in the evening.

In November 2017, Star Assembly was among the medical staff of the Pediatrics Section of the Sebeş Municipal Hospital to donate an ultrasound with special probes, thus helping to improve the medical act offered to thousands of small patients who benefit annually from the services of the Pediatrics Section. At the same time, the Cugir Technology Center celebrated 10 years of activity.

Today, the Centre supports the production of components for the Cugir production site, as well as that of gearboxes in Sebes, for Star Assembly, by developing complex technological processes for metal processing as well as unconventional technologies.
