“642” is the code for one of STC’s most important projects that the Company started in early 2004. The implementation of the project resulted in the production of 200 pieces/day of camshafts and 800 pieces/day of spur gears.

In July, the Company succeeded in obtaining the first external certification of the quality management system according to ISO 9001/VDA 6.1.

Star Transmission Cugir was appointed by its parent company, Mercedes-Benz AG, Berlin plant, to produce “chain tensioners”. To this end, the production line was transferred from the Berlin plant to Cugir and STC became a “100 % supplier”, with 3,500 chain tensioners produced each working day for all Mercedes Diesel engines.

The galvanizing installation was also put into service and used for covering the “chain tensioner’s case” with a zinc-iron alloy. This process was carried out in the new Hall no. 2, the hall transferred from the Hedelfingen plant and reassembled at STC.
